By fall 2014, if high school students wish to graduate they will have to know more about physics and geometry. Say goodbye to pieces of the FCAT. Governor Crist signed Senate Bill 4 Tuesday which includes these changes.
The Legislatture was near unanimous in support of the legislation. Senate Bill 4 was one of bills passed by the state Legislature this session. It does not link teacher pay to student grades. The new law toughens graduation requirements and replaces the high school math and science sections of the FCAT with end-of-course tests. The changes that will take effect this fall add algebra II, geometry, chemistry, biology and physics to the list of required courses. State lawmakers are still working out the costs.

I think this is a good idea for students. They place too much on these FCAT's and not enough on the classes themselves. It will help our students prepare for college better.
